A show featuring the artwork of Maryland Institute College of Art students and faculty participating in the MICA London Study Abroad program. The exhibition includes original artwork, posters, comics, and prints by Jack Kirby as well as work by artists inspired by him. Jack Kirby was an American comic book artist who helped create hundreds of original characters, including Captain America, the Incredible Hulk, Ironman, and the Fantastic Four.

Though headquartered in New Jersey, "AB" manufactured California, Mexican and Texas spurs, employing many of the finest craftsmen from those regions. Stephanie Klasky-Gamer, president and CEO of LA Family Housing, a homeless services provider and affordable housing developer, also courts donors. Los Angeles has always been a city of extremes, but the homelessness crisis is exposing the divide between rich and poor in startling ways. But, he noted that climate change is still expected to further stretch those natural extremes. Even with many water measurements pointing to an overall average water year thus far, federal officials recently issued a major disaster declaration for nine counties after the deadly February atmospheric river storms. Spur is seeking a dedicated and experienced full-time Senior ICT (Telecommunications) Designer to enhance our dynamic team. This individual will play a key role in planning, designing, and implementing comprehensive telecommunications solutions for our projects.
The intent of this project was to create a full-service Cancer Treatment Center to serve the Shreveport area by including medical oncology, radiation oncology and hematology services under one roof. The Medical Oncology Department included (14) chemotherapy bays, an isolation room, pharmacy, blood draw, (8) exam rooms and triage. The Radiation Oncology Department included (2) linear accelerators, a computed tomography (CT) simulator, (3) exam rooms, an exam procedure room, dosimetry, and physics lab. This new Cancer Treatment Center was designed to complement the surrounding buildings on the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center campus with matching brick, cast stone, and aluminum window systems. The interior was designed with a balance of aesthetics, durability and timelessness in order to create a welcoming environment for veterans and their families. But even though there were more atmospheric rivers this rainy season, fewer of the storms measured strong or extreme on the center’s strength scale compared to the season before that.
Among them was Service Employees International Union Local 721, which just won seven raises over a five-year span — an increase of more than 24% once compounding is factored in. Once council members approved the LAPD raises, they had an obligation to strike similar deals with other employee unions, Soto-Martínez said. “If there ends up being distress for multi-family [buildings], it’s a way to keep as much housing as they can,” he said. An estimate for the unfinished building came in at $850 million, she said, and it would probably have to be torn down. Bass has said that she initially expected Inside Safe participants to spend three to six months in temporary housing, only to realize that, for many, those stays would last one to two years because of a dearth of affordable housing. Bass’ signature homelessness program, Inside Safe, has cleared some encampments and moved some unhoused Angelenos into hotel and motel rooms.
Other philanthropic groups are already tapping wealthy donors to help with homelessness, among them the Mayor’s Fund, a separate nonprofit affiliated with Bass that focuses on preventing people from falling into homelessness. HACLA Chief Executive Douglas Guthrie said that the authority is close to purchasing buildings using LA4LA financing and anticipates closing on new apartment units by early fall. Sarah Kirsch, managing director of affordable housing funds at the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, said that one of the funds offers investors a 3% return. LA4LA is modeled after a similar program in Atlanta that has raised $150 million from philanthropic groups, corporations and individuals. The program provides loans and grants to developers of mixed-income housing that includes affordable units.
In some states, such as New Jersey, green amendments with bipartisan support have languished for years because key lawmakers have prevented them from being being considered. SEIU Local 721, the largest civilian city union at City Hall, put $25,000 into a pro-Raman committee, according to Ethics Commission filings. In recent years, the union has made donations to campaigns or office holder committees of a dozen other council members. She is part of the team that won the 2023 Pulitzer Prize in breaking news for reporting on a leaked audio recording that upended City Hall politics. She joined the newsroom in 2016 and previously covered City Hall for the Los Angeles Daily News. Waldman pointed to the narrow passage of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s $6.4-billion bond measure to overhaul California’s mental health system in the recent March election as an example of voters’ wariness about funding more homeless services.

The police contract covers nearly 9,000 officers and is expected to add about $384 million to the city’s annual budget in its final year. For example, 12 strong, extreme or exceptional atmospheric river storms hit California between October 2022 and March 2023. In California specifically, 44 atmospheric rivers made landfall from October through March, up from 31 during last year’s rainy season, said Chad Hecht, a center meteorologist. Although few people had even heard of atmospheric rivers just a couple of decades ago, research into the mammoth vapor trails has proved critical to California water planning and public safety.
If world leaders need a jolt to get into crisis mode on climate change, this should be it. But there’s a reason that powerful business interests have come out in opposition. Enshrining environmental rights in California’s constitution would give citizens a new tool to hold the government accountable for failing to act in the interest of environmental health, protection and justice. David Green, SEIU 721’s president and executive director, offered praise for the package of raises this month, saying it will help the city bring on new employees. Raman, who was reelected last month, did find support from other unions with business before the council.
But this time around, the three council members, who make up the body’s superprogressive bloc, did not voice cost concerns. Bass, looking to beef up recruitment at the Los Angeles Police Department, negotiated a package of pay increases that’s expected to consume an extra $1 billion over four years. At a news conference outside City Hall, Councilmembers Nithya Raman, Eunisses Hernandez and Hugo Soto-Martínez described the deal as financially risky, warning that it would threaten other city services.
